We start with doing almost nothing! The moment of “doing nothing” becomes the foundation of your creativity. In the group we will play some games. Observation on the spot will eventually lead you to create the image. Your power of observation is the most effective tool you will learn to use in this course. You will first be surprised by what is possible before you come up with a plan, which you’ll use to create your sculpture of ceramics.

Please note: This class is taught in Dutch but the instructor will translate into English or German if it’s requested.

What will you learn in the course In the Course of Things?

You will observe your own actions. Your self-reflection will become the main professional tool with which you will work and enhance your skills. Without any necessary prior knowledge of ceramics, you will create a challenging and personal sculpture. Pure clay will be used and fired without glaze.

Let yourself be surprised. Complete purposelessness is the ground on which we will build. You love to engage in discussion with others. In the group process we will look at and discuss each other’s work.
This course is suitable for people with a lot of creative experience as well as for the absolute beginner.

Course Structure

We will do some games in the group. In these you will perform simple, seemingly useless actions that initially have nothing to do with making an image. We will watch and discuss these actions and develop a working method based on them.
